The Company
ESD is a joint venture consisting of Galliford Try, Black & Veatch and MWH delivering Scottish Water Contracts withing SR15. Their portfolio covers a range of activities from multi-million pound new build treatment and waste water treatment plants to refurbishment work and pipeline placement.
The Challenge
Many ESD project sites are located in remote areas with poor to no mobile phone coverage and often far from Openreach telephone exchanges. Traditionally when there is no terrestrial connectivity on site contractors have limited options available to them. ESD JV Partners previously used 3G / 4G dongles however these rely on quality mobile network coverage.
Having no voice or data connectivity leads to lengthy project delays and can be a health and safety concern.
The Solution
Clarus Site Solutions designed a specialist marine grade 4G network solution that can connection to high speed 4G mobile internet, even in areas where there is little to no mobile signal at ground level. This has been deployed on every site so far in conjunction with network monitoring equipment giving the IT team remote access and control of all sites from their head office. For larger regional hubs, structured cabling was installed by Clarus engineers which were connected to managed wifi access points, VoIP phones and surveillance systems.
The Outcome
Clarus has provided business grade connectivity on every ESD site so far within days of their cabins arriving on site. This has allowed project teams to access their company VPN, download/upload plans and keep in touch with clients, suppliers and colleagues on a day to day basis.
